Abstract :

A manually operated goundnut oil extracting machine was designed and constructed. The major components of the machine include the kneading chamber, stirrer shaft, transmission shaft, bevel gears and expelling unit. The expelling unit consists of pressure plate, perforated cylinder, collecting pan and hydraulic jack. The machine was tested and evaluated on the following parameters: oil yield, extraction capacity, extraction efficiency and purity of the extracted oil. The result showed that the oil yield, extraction capacity, extraction efficiency and percentage purity of 1.1%, 2.58l/h, 63.8% and 94.1% respectively. The cost of production of the machine was about ₦20,000 (USD 50) as of August 2016.
