Abstract :

The aim of this study is to develop rice husk ash-plastic composite and to determine physical and mechanical properties of the various compositions of the composite with a view of finding application for the developed composite. Composite of various compositions were developed and properties evaluated. The water absorption, thickness swelling, density, and modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, ultimate tensile strength, and Young’s modulus and percentage elongation were determined. The result showed high modulus of rupture of 208.7 MPa, modulus of elasticity of 6951.3 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 16.95MPa, Young’s modulus of 211.9MPa, percentage elongation of 15.5%, thickness swelling of 14.4% and lowest water absorption of 24%. The result showed that the composite developed could be used in engineering applications such as production of particle board.
