Abstract :

This paper presents the load stability assessment on Shiroro-Zamfara Radial Network in the North-Western Nigeria. The main objective of this research work is to develop a model of the reduced North-West Network using data obtained from Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and to determine the limiting value of the load effect on Zamfara bus using Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) in MATLAB environment so as to test the accuracy and convergence of this network. The loading effect is validated through the load analysis and non-linear time domain simulation so that the impacts of increasing load can be determined. Thus a case study was conducted at Zamfara bus and the simulation results obtained revealed that: Voltage value was 0.9008Pu at 5MW, 0.8986pu at 40MW and 0.8940pu at 100MW which shows that the voltage value decreases as the load increases; the minimum and maximum voltage at which the system became unstable are 0.5MW and 120MW. Hence increasing load with increasing distance is significantly affecting the voltage profile at Zamfara bus.
